I am not a religious person. But religion is so enmeshed in our cultural fabric that I choose to be a part of it at my own whim. Call me a hypocrite, but religion for me is more about not being left out, being a part of the socio-cultural drama that we call life, a way to mark the tides and times of the year. It gives me a sense of being, of belonging, and of awareness of the time passing by. My identity, however much I may try to neutralize, has the embedding of my religion. I would not be me without my religion. There isn’t much fun in being a blank piece of paper, now is there?
